1283. Baker. Keating. Oregon Copper Co. Cert #5185. Incorporated in Oregon. Issued to H. G. Crewe for 100 shares in 1929. Signed by T. M. Fitzpatrick as president and Robert N. Munley as secretary. Goes format with small mining vignettes at the four corners and one larger mining vignette at top left. Uncancelled. 8 x 10”. This company owned a large claim block on Balm Creek, 25 miles northeast of Baker. Copper and gold were present in the gossan. The property had been examined by prominent USGS geologist W. Lindgren. By 1929, there were two shafts and more than 21,000 feet of underground workings. Proven ore in 1929 was estimated at $10 million. The company may have gone flowers up in the depression. 1312. Western. General. Cowboys in a Western Town, c.1910. The scene is of a cowboy with a lasso. There is a man on a horse with a flag, one playing a bugle and another beating a drum. Another man is holding a cloth sign with “Band of Sioux Indians.” We are not sure which town this is and may well be in the Midwest. The scene is 2.75 x 4” with the rest being white border. 1322. Churchill. Fallon. Palace Club Poker Chips and Trade Tokens. Lot of 4 different pcs. The first piece is a rare poker chip, with “PC” and “25cents” in gold on obverse and reverse and horseshoes bordering either side. Listed as very rare in Campaglia’s Casino Chip Guide, its condition of at least MS 63 ads to its rarity and value. The second piece is a more common, but still scarce $1.00 Palace Club chip, with blue fields highlighted by gold print on either side and three orange inserts. Vf, with soiling throughout and adhesive damage to one side. The final two are clover-shaped, green plastic trade tokens, with white lettering, both Unc. This is a nice array of pieces! Est. $25-75

1354. Washoe. Reno. Mapes Hotel and Casino Poker Chips. Lot of 9 pcs. Established in 1947 by Mrs. Charles Mapes and her son Charles, the Mapes Hotel and Casino has grown to be a symbol of Reno in the hearts of many. Its closure in 1982 left many to muse over fond memories, hopeful for a resurrection. After almost 20 years of vacancy, plans were in motion to restore the building, and convert the 12-story landmark into a time-share. But by 2000, after much controversy over its architectural soundness, and debates over its use, plans to demolish the building were made by city officials. Sadly, all that remains is an empty lot, occasionally occupied by small events. These chips are among the many relics collected from the hotel. Three different styles: 4 maroon with 4 green inserts; 2 brown with three orange inserts; 2 blue with three red inserts; and one maroon, plain. All 37mm, Fine-Vf/Xf. Est. $50-100
