596. Railroad. A Memory Book Of Memories, Lake Michigan to the Puget Sound, Through the Rockies, Bitter Root and Cascade Mountains, 1914. Published by the Interstate Co, Minneapolis, Minn. There are 36 pages of full page photographs and landscape drawings. The trip begins at Lone Rock, Kilbourn, Wisconsin, traveling along a route that would be probably closely mimic the placement of the present day Interstate 90. The journey ends with reaching the summit of Mount Rainier. The book was designed to describe what a cross continental journey would be like and what wonders the traveler would see. The inside front cover has text that continues on the inside rear cover. Staining along the edges of both covers. Inside pages are mostly unaffected. 10 x 12. Very fine. Est. $25-75

The report outlines the activities of the commission, cases resolved, cases pending, commerce rates and other information. 285 pages, indexed. 9 x 6. The second is the Railway Statistics of the United States of America, 1910. The booklet was prepared by Slason Thompson of the Bureau of Railway News and Statistics. The opening statement of the report attacks the Federal Government. “In the United States the government statistics of railway have the appearance of being gathered, compiled and disseminated to discredit and harass the great industry the government is pledged to foster as well as regulate. In no other civilized country on earth is the function of statistics so abused.” 106 pages, red soft bound cover, 9 x 6. The cover is faded around the edges on the front cover. The cover indicates that they had been publishing weekly for 42 years (since 1896). On the rear of each publication (far too numerous to list or count) is the Statement of Policy, which is as follows, “Mining Truth is not financially interested in or affiliated with any brokerage, underwriting or promotion house. It receives no compensation… for describing, recommending or endorsing any security mentioned in its pages…” The rest of Statement indicates the publication also covers issues of Politics and Economics in regards to mining.
