This is the story of one of the men supposedly involved in the great hoax that bankrupt the Bank of California and was exposed by the men of the Wheeler Survey. Hunting Diamonds in California, by Mary Hill. Published in 1972 by Naturegraph Publishers. 80 pages, with illustrations and photos. Soft bound, with purple cover featuring an illustration of diamond and mining. Diamond, by Emily Hahn. This is a compilation of several bulletins from the Goodman Manufacturing Company advertising their products. Each bulletin covers one piece of machinery. Each one is nicely illustrated with text touting the merits of each item. Bulletin 103, Oct. 1912: The Goodman Electric Shortwall Mingin Machine: “The Modern Mining Marvel.” Bulletin 1221, April, 1915, The Goodman Straightface Electric Coal Mining Machine “An Overcutter Which Maintains a Straight and Square Working Place.” Bulletin 451, March 1914, The Goodman Two-Motor Electric Mine Locomotive “For Haulage Heavy and Light in Entries Wide and Narrow Under Roofs High and Low.” Bulletin No. 502, May 1913, The Goodman Gathering Locomotive “A Type and Size for Every Service.” Bulletin 402, August 1911, The Goodman Single-Motor Locomotive “For Haulage, Switching and Gathering in Coal and Metal Mines, and for General Service in Industrial and Construction Work.” Approximately 250 pp. Softcover, brown with green embossing. Siling and water stains, pages are a bit wrinkled. The photos are off-set printed and are of underground mining, mostly in Minnesota and Michigan. This catalog offers Railway, Agricultural, General, Mining Machinery and more. Excerpt from one description: “Horizontal Rolling Machine… Fig. 1 is considered by some scientific men superior to the Stamping Machine described below, and no doubt is more economical to work. The stones are thrown into a hopper above, and pass between the cylinders, by which they are broken to very small pieces, falling into baskets or boxes below, and are carried in them to the crushing rollers…” Very fine. 10 x 11 1/2.
