252. Canada. Fossils. Dendroid Graptolites of the Niagaran Dolomites at Hamilton, Ontario by Ray S. Bassler, 1909. 75 pages. At the end are nearly 12 pages of black and white photographic plates of dendroid Graptolites. There is a Species Index located on the last pages. Bassler was the Curator, Division of Invertebrate Paleontology, U. S. National Museum. This book was a part of several different libraries evidenced by rubber stamps on front and glued paper on first sheet. Wear to edges with chips and minor tears. Fine to very fine. 254. Canada. Mining. Canadian Geological Survey Reports, 1887. Lot of 3 different volumes. The first is titled Operations of the Geological Survey for the year 1866 by Aflred R. C. Selwyn, Director of the Survey. The report discusses Selwyn’s trip to England to a convention where he and colleagues proudly displayed minerals and rocks of Canada. They claimed that the response was excellent and hoped it would bring much more business to Canada. The report goes on to outline the achievements of the previous year’s field session. Mapping and surveying were taking place in nearly every District of Canada. The second volume is titled Statistical Report on the Production, Value, Exports and Imports of Mineral in Canada by Eugene Coste, 1867. This report breaks down production by Provinces with tons and values. Each major mineral is listed with a short write up and a chart. Within the write ups are often the names of the major mines for that specific mineral. The last volume is Report on the Geology of a Portion of the Eastern Townships…Relating more especially to the Counties of Compton, Stanstead, Beauce, Richmond and Wolfe by R. W. Elds, 1887. 70 pages. Includes a geologic map of a portion of Quebec, 22 x 30. There are also a few photographs of interesting geology. All of the volumes are 10 x 7. There are chips along the edges and a few pieces are missing. All very readable and are in fine to very fine condition. Est. $50-150

Illustrated, 217 pp which includes a Business Directory of Port Arthur at the end of the book. Hardbound, blue cloth with gilt lettering and black trim. Cover is dinged, worn, bent and wrinkled. Foxing in the interior of the book. Binding good. Overall condition fair. “J.F. Ruttan, Crown Lands Agent, Real Estate and Insurance, Port Arthur, Canada” rubber stamped several times in interior. Part 1 of this book covers Topographical and Historical Notes on Nipigon Lake and River to Thunder Bay; Port Arthur 1800-1887; Prosperity of Ft. William; the mines, minerals and pioneers of the area; Official Reports on Development by A.L. Russell, Dominion and Provincial Land Surveyor. Part II covers the mines of the North Shore and Western Gold and Silver District, 1887. Part III covers the Geology of Algoma West. This book has some great illustrations! Est. $200-400
