NEVADA -- Mineral through Ormsby

683. Mineral. Candelaria(?). Photo that could be Candelaria(?), but not positive. The brick building in the scene suggests that the town's activity dates back to 1870's. There are also two wooden buildings flanking the brick one. Buildings in street scene are in relatively poor condition an indication of their age. The background is of mountainous setting common to many of Nevada's mining camps. What is odd is that there is no obvious street traffic, thus we suggest that the town is in serious decline. People visible in storefronts. Blurry carriage passing between both buildings. Came with group of photos related to C & C R.R. but the photo is not distinguishable when compared to photos in Paher's Nevada Ghost Towns & Mining Camps book Matted on gray board, 3.75" x 2.75". xf. Est. $75-150

692. Nye. Beatty. One Ounce Silver Coin for the Gold Bar Mine. Picture of frog, with "Bullfrog District, Nye Co., Nevada" on obverse. "The Gold Bar Mine" and picture of mine on reverse, "1987". Rd, Silver, 40mm, Proof. This coin is number 33 of 50 that were numbered. Fred Holabird designed this coin when he was managing the Gold Bar Mine as a Geologist. The Bullfrog design he used has the points of the frog as marking the relative positions of the major mines in the Bullfrog District. The 'heart' of the frog is Beatty. The headframe shown on the reverse is a view of the actual headframe. An interesting side note. When Fred Holabird cleared the land, the geology staff discovered that the old miners missed the high grade ore by mere feet. The high grade was located just below the surface underneath the headframe resting within the footwall of a regional fault. The old miners chased much lower grade ore down the fault plane within the hanging wall. We have offered only 3 of these coins in the last 10 years. All that we offer come directly from Fred's personal stash of the few coins he kept. Est. $75-150.
