xf, unused. Est. $25-75 653. Eureka. Eureka. Extremely rare Aqua Blob Top Soda Bottle. H. Maw & Co/Eureka/Nevada. Chip on base ring just left of raised lettering. Overall clean and in mint condition. The MAW bottle is a mis-spelling of MAU. Mau had problems with Pacific Glass Works in San Francisco and others when he ordered goods with his name on it. Undoubtedly, SFGW interpreted a handwritten "Mau" as "Maw". The same thing happened with the tokens he used for his saloons in Eureka, Ruby Hill, and Hamilton. Mau's name was mis-spelled "Man" several times. Mau bought the San Francisco Brewery in Eureka in 1881 after owning a saloon there for several years. His partner was Fred Heitman, who remained his partner until Mau died in 1888. In 1883, Mau opened a soda works at the brewery, which lasted until he died. Very few of these bottles are known to exist. Many years ago, Bob Mackay in Eureka gave me a bucket full of the MAW bottles all with the tops purposefully broken off that he had found in one hole, without having found a whole one. I gave those broken bottles out to Nevada collectors long ago. None of the MAW bottles are known in lime green or light blue. Est. $1000-1500 654. Eureka. Eureka. Lot of two Prescriptions for F.J. Schneider, Druggist and Apothecary. One is for Fred Hammon and the other for Mr. Davis, both 1889. This is the same Schneider of the embossed bottles from Eureka. Front xf, reverse appears to have adhesive residue. Extremely rare. Est. $100-200 656. Humboldt. Lovelock. Real photo postcard of street scene of Lovelock. About sixteen cars parked in front of local hangouts, such as the Nevada Club, a drug store and café. Large Sierra Beer sign situated on top of one of the buildings. Postmarked Lovelock, 1959. Note to Mom on reverse. Photo dates from around 1945-50. Tear at bottom center that turns into a crease as it travels to the left edge, probably due to a bend. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", xf. Est. $20-40 657. Humboldt. Winnemucca. Black and white photograph of Winnemucca Train Station, c.1910. The construction of the Central Pacific RR began in Sacramento, and traveled eastward to Promontory, Utah. Beginning in Sacramento in 1863, construction reached Winnemucca in October, 1868 and was completed to Promontory in May of 1869. The Western Pacific RR constructed a line between Salt Lake City and Oakland, California, passing through Winnemucca in April 1909 and completing the link in November of the same year. Freight service began in December, and passenger service in August of 1910. This photo may mark celebration ceremonies of the opening of this service, or possibly a dedication of eastbound traffic along the Humboldt River on the Western Pacific Rails and westbound traffic on the Central Pacific rails during WWI. Excellent contrast and content. Some cracking along edges. An original tear is present at the upper right corner that existed prior to mounting; there is also an early tear at the left edge. 8.5" x 11 matted. Est. $100-200 658. Humboldt. Winnemucca.
