MASSACHUSETTES

663. Massachusetts, State Assay Office Assay Receipt, Boston, MA 11-May 1888

No.8200 Certificate of analysis for a rock sample that contained 21% aluminum. This certificate is at the front end of what ultimately was a quiet mining rush for aluminum. Use of aluminum to manufacture products started about this time and particularly can be seen in the early So-Called Dollars, Commemorative Rounds and other medals. By about 1898 many tokens (Pioneer Minor Coinage) were made in aluminum, which later became one of the most common metals used.  Fine. $150.
