Co., Mining Exchange Bldg., Colo. Springs, Colo.” Several rivets around edge for mounting. We are not able to verify the authenticity of this piece. (1) View though a rock opening at the Garden of the Gods, captioned in gold lettering at bottom left “51020 Pikes Peak from Gateway, Colorado.” (2) Captioned at bottom left “51007 Manitou, Colorado.” Both images are almost certainly from the Detroit Photographic co., although not marked. The image is very similar to a W. H. Jackson photograph in the collection of the Library of Congress (call nos. D4-1807 and LC-D4-13809). Very slight wear at corners. Both very fine. Est. $75-150

Uncancelled. Printer - Franklin Bank Note. 7 x 11”. The company owned the Ben Franklin, Gen. Cadwallader, Philadelphia and William Penn claims located on Breece Hill, about 3 miles from Leadville. 1699. Colorado. Lake. Leadville. Climax Mining Co. Lot of 3. Certs. # 2644, #5827 & #5832. Inc. in New York. Issued to Allen & Stead (#2644) and to Geo. W. Gerty (#’s 5827 and 5832), in 1880 and 1882 respectively, 100 shares each. Signed by president and secretary. Vignette top center of goat with two young ones and small vignette at bottom of Colorado seal. Green border on light green paper. Uncancelled. Printer: ABN Co., N.Y. 6 1/2 x 9 1/2. Owned the Climax Mine located on Fryer Hill about 3/4 mile from Leadville. Exploited a contact vein from 6 to 32 inches wide containing a low grade ore of silver and lead carbonates that, after sorting, yielded 25% lead and 20 oz. Per ton silver. Developed by 7 shafts aggregating 900 feet and about 400 ft. of drifts. Produced $7000,000 by about 1882 (Corregan & Lingane, p. 404-405). This stock and company has often been confused with the famous Climax Mine just a few miles from Leadville. Fine condition. Est. $150-300

The museum quickly sold out of these maps and are now very difficult to come across. The map was compiled by Chas. Saunders. The major mining companies, of that time, properties are colored.
